Program in Mitochondrial Biology
The Program in Mitochondrial Biology conducts research that pursues cures for mitochondrial diseases, while providing the best possible care for patients and their families. We host a mitochondrial biology conference that brings together leaders in our field, and work closely with the Mitochondrial Research Guild, a Seattle Children's guild founded by local families.
Our laboratories lead cutting-edge research on mitochondria's role in childhood disease. This includes developing tests that help doctors diagnose and monitor mitochondrial diseases; investigating drugs that could reverse some of the diseases' effects; and developing better treatments for pediatric epilepsies caused by mitochondrial dysfunction.
Clinical Care for Patients With Mitochondrial Disease
Our collaborative team delivers some of the nation's top clinical care for patients with mitochondrial diseases, via Seattle Children's Hospital's Program for Mitochondrial Medicine and Metabolism. Through this program, we diagnose and treat a wide range of mitochondrial diseases, offer state-of-the-art diagnosis and help patients access new therapies being tested in clinical trials.
Mitochondrial Biology Conference
We host a conference that brings together renowned leaders in mitochondrial disease to explore the next generation of research and patient care. The 2014 conference was held September 12 and 13.
