What is the goal of the study?
Study long-term goal is to discern the protective function of breastmilk T cells against respiratory infection in infants. The objective of this study is to elucidate a respiratory-mammary axis of immunity, which drives the establishment and retention of T cells in the lactating breast. We seek to accomplish this objective through the following aims: Aim 1. Investigate the effect of acute maternal or infant upper respiratory infection on breastmilk T cell populations and functional responses. Aim 2. Interrogate breastmilk antigen-specific memory T cell responses in the setting of infant infection
