A YEAR OF GENEROUS DONOR IMPACT
2022 was one of the most transformational years in our 115-year history, with major milestones amid national pediatric health care challenges. In the final months, RSV, influenza and COVID-19 cases — along with a growing pediatric mental health care crisis — caused an unprecedented surge in the need for specialty pediatric care across the nation.
The Seattle Children’s Emergency Department and hospital saw record volumes — at times, 300% of our capacity. We’re grateful for your generosity, which played a critical role in ensuring children and families received the best possible care without overwhelming financial stress.
With philanthropic support totaling more than $139 million, Seattle Children’s was able to provide 391,653 patient visits, including 11,250 outpatient surgeries and 3,902 inpatient surgeries. We provided a record $282 million in uncompensated care — including $21 million covered by generous donors — to meet our founding promise to care for all children who need us. We were also reminded of the power of donor-funded endowments, which generated nearly $19 million across more than 50 programs, clinics and research centers.

Here’s a snapshot of our generous community in 2022 – every gift from every donor makes a difference to patients and families.
New Spaces Transform Care for Patients and Families
Community support helped open three new buildings in 2022 that are transforming care for patients and families. Your commitment enables Seattle Children’s to continue meeting the growing needs of children – both in our region and around the world.
Nordstrom and Gittinger Families Building
In 2022, generous donor contributions helped Seattle Children’s achieve a major milestone with the opening of this new building, also known as Forest B. Adding 310,000 square feet to the hospital campus, the facility features eight operating rooms, two catheterization labs, 20 inpatient rooms and the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic at Othello Square
The awed reaction of visitors at OBCC Othello reflects the vital role this space is playing in the health of the community. Years of visioning, planning and donor support culminated in the clinic’s opening in early 2022 – and today, medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition services and more are available to families at this location.
Seattle Children’s Magnuson
Made possible by philanthropic gifts, Seattle Children’s new hub for autism and behavioral health services opened its doors last year. With this renovation and move, we are working toward a future where every young person has access to evidence-based mental and behavioral health services when and where they need them.
Meet Hudson
"Our gaming therapist, Forest, was a blessing to our family. We tried a lot of different therapies, but gaming was the only thing Hudson really responded to. Forest got Hudson through a lot of painful times."

This 11-year-old was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy that affected the muscles in his heart, requiring a transplant in February 2022. His family credits the donor-funded therapeutic gaming program for helping manage Hudson’s pain during his hospital stay.
