Our Team

Our dedicated employees and volunteers are the heart of Seattle Children’s. In 2022, we had: 

• 9,490 total active employees
• 1,918 total active medical staff
• 1,716 total member nurses, Washington State Nurses Association
• 1,034 total physicians in training (academic year 2021–2022)
• 333 total medical students in training (academic year 2021-2022)
• An average of 477 volunteers per month, serving a total of 59,000+ hours

Our Patients

Our workforce is dedicated to providing compassionate care to every patient we serve.

• In 2022, we had 391,653 patient visits.
• The five reasons for inpatient admission were seizure, chemotherapy, respiratory infections, pulmonary edema and respiratory failure, and bronchitis and RSV pneumonia.
• Our top five outpatient services were Rehabilitation Medicine; Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine; Orthopedics and Sports Medicine; Heart Center; and Otolaryngology.
• We performed 11,250 outpatient surgeries and 3,902 inpatient surgeries.
• We had 364 total licensed beds in operation as of December 31, 2022:
  • Medical/Surgical Unit: 167
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (including Cardiac ICU): 64
  • Cancer and Blood Disorders Center - Inpatient: 48
  • Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit: 41
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: 32
  • Rehabilitation Unit: 12

Our Funding

We build on a culture of philanthropy for patient care and research.

Seattle Children’s Hospital

• We had gross revenue of $3,359,395,000.
• We provided $260,659,000 in uncompensated care that was not offset by payments from Medicaid, grants and donations.
• Our payor mix included 49% from Medicaid and 51% from insurance and managed care.

Seattle Children’s Research Division

• We had $218,663,411 in total extramural funding.
• The federal government provided $119,277,657 and corporations provided $20,943,785.
