Community Measurement and Innovation Hub

In 2022, Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic (OBCC) launched a Community Innovation Hub to learn from the community and work together to continue providing the best care possible to patients and their families. OBCC has a long history of providing quality healthcare with dignity.

By listening to and learning from members of the OBCC community, the Hub is focused on building community partnerships aimed at making changes to our programs and services that will improve the health and well-being of patients, families and the community. We want patients and families to feel safe, empowered and well cared for every time they come to our clinic.

Who’s Involved?

Our OBCC community includes:

  • Patients and their family members from the diverse neighborhoods we serve
  • Community members
  • Representatives from partner organizations
  • Members of the OBCC Governance Council
  • OBCC team members

We are involving the OBCC community when gathering input and evaluating current and future programs and services — what is working well, what changes need to be made and whether the changes or new programs we develop are successful.

What We’re Doing

We take a community-centered approach to collecting information by directly involving the people and communities we serve and asking culturally relevant questions. The goal of this partnership is to build trust, advance health equity, and improve the health and well-being of our community.

Through the hub we will:

  • Listen and engage with the community OBCC serves.
  • Work with patients, families and community members to measure and evaluate OBCC’s model of care, programs and services to make sure we are providing the best pediatric care with dignity.
  • Build lasting relationships with the community by participating in events, forums, and other ways of listening, and by partnering with individuals and organizations to better understand the community’s needs.

How We’re Doing it

We have several ways we are gathering input from our patients, families and community members.

Governance Council

The council works with OBCC leaders to provide strategic leadership of the clinic to achieve equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities. The council identifies systemic issues of inequity at OBCC and develops recommendations for solutions. Its members will ensure that the needs and perspectives of the OBCC community inform decision-making when reviewing new or changes to existing programs and services. They will also monitor the effectiveness of any changes.

Community Grand Rounds

Our town hall series covers various topics to help us better understand the issues impacting the families we serve.

Community assessment meetings

Patients and families will remain at the center of the work we do. We will gather feedback from patients, families and community members at all stages of each Innovation Hub project — during planning, development and implementation. Once complete, we will continue to evaluate how we are doing and whether we are effectively and equitably meeting the needs of the people we serve.

How You Can Help

We invite you to attend our upcoming community events to hear updates from OBCC and community leaders and to offer your feedback.
